Draft Statewide Strategic Transportation Plan Released (12/31/09)
Senate Bill 200, officially OCGA 32-2-41.1, requires the Georgia Department of Transportation Director of Planning to prepare a draft of the Statewide Strategic Transportation Plan (SSTP) for the General Assembly by December 31, 2009 for comments and suggestions.
The process took months to complete, but the result is a comprehensive draft document examining a wide variety of transportation options and solutions for Georgia and its citizens. The shared SSTP development effort involved staff and input from many organizations including GDOT, GRTA, the Governor’s Office, ARC, MARTA, Planning Metropolitan Organizations and more.
The SSTP was developed in accordance with each of the investment policies required under Senate Bill 200, as passed during the 2009 legislative session. The various investment policies were evaluated through quantitative and qualitative analyses to ensure a comprehensive and strategic approach for identifying future transportation infrastructure improvements.
The final SSTP is scheduled to be completed after February 15, 2010, and presented to the Governor and the State Transportation Board for approval.
